A summit on sustainability, the customary appointment with Naturae et Purae and a special focus on sustainable wines with Georgia, Campania and Abruzzo in comparison: the event conceived by The WineHunter Helmuth Köcher, a prestigious stage for Italian and international wine & food excellence, increasingly emphasises and supports the green theme, in a rich programme that also includes talks, masterclasses and showcooking involving famous names in the food and wine and institutional fields.
Highlights include the Platinum Award ceremony during the festival’s opening ceremony and Carlo Guttadauro’s short film narrating the origins of the Merano event. There will be many special guests from the wine & food, institutional and cultural worlds such as Franco Pepe, Peppe Aversa, Luca Gardini, Luca d’Attoma, Luigi Moio, Paolo De Castro, Herbert Dorfmann, Andrea Prete, Attilio Scienza and Gerry Scotti.
Up to 6,500 visitors are expected, more than 700 producers in the Wine, Food – Spirits – Beer section, more than 330 labels in The Winehunter Area, more than 50 events including 16 materclasses, 1 summit divided into 6 presentations, 7 talks, 2 book presentations and 18 guest chefs for numerous shoowcooking sessions and special dinners: between roots, art and sustainability, these are the numbers of the 31st Merano WineFestival.
From a history that traces its origins, to a major summit on sustainability that addresses one of today’s most pressing issues: Merano WineFestival opens its doors for the 31st edition, uniting past, present and future under the banner of excellence between roots, art and – this year’s central theme – sustainability. The Merano WineFestival, scheduled from tomorrow Friday 4 November to Tuesday 8 November, confirms itself as an authoritative stage on the wine & food scene, with a programme full of novelties and exceptional guests.
From opinion leaders and stakeholders involved in the “Breath and Cry of the Earth” summit, artists and illustrious names from the world of entertainment who support the world of wine, defending its quality and culture in Italy and around the world. From the wine & food scene: star chefs Franco Pepe and Peppe Aversa, oenologist Luca D’Attoma, wine critic Luca Gardini. From the world of institutions: Luigi Moio, OIV President and Paolo De Castro, EU Agriculture Commission, live streaming; Herbert Dorfmann, Member of the European Parliament and member of the EU Agriculture Commission. From the world of culture and entertainment: the researcher, professor, visionary Attilio Scienza and the presenter and wine producer Gerry Scotti.
From 4 to 8 November, the best wine and culinary products selected during the year by The WineHunter take the stage in the Kurhaus and Gourmet Arena, over 700 in total, divided into two exhibition sessions. There are also 7 talks, 16 masterclasses, show-cooking, 2 book presentations and a ‘Red Wave’, the off-site event that enlivens Merano on festival days, even more exciting, not to forget the more than 330 labels in The WineHunter Area.
SUSTAINABILITY. Opening the 31st Merano WineFestival is the ‘Breath and Cry of the Earth’ summit, on 4 and 5 November: six meetings, analysis and in-depth discussion groups addressing the issue of water as a primary and fundamental resource for life, innovation, food safety and sustainability in the wine supply chain, certifications in viticulture, as well as some case histories such as the ‘sustainable Abruzzo’ model.
Summit that will ultimately lead to the drafting of a MANIFESTO that will be signed by all opinion leaders and stakeholders and delivered to the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policies. Focus on sustainability also through the models put into practice by Campania and Georgia in comparison, including talks, tastings and showcooking.
To end with the now consolidated appointment Naturae et Purae (from 4 to 7 November), a conference conceived by Helmuth Köcher and journalist Angelo Carrillo, this year dedicated to the theme “Wine Resilience – Extreme Spirits” – From the islands of the Mediterranean to those of the spirit.
